Adventures Thru Wonderland

Hello! I'm Stephanie!

Short Review:
The cover is what caught my attention. I have always loved the painted look, (The Story of the Candy Cane was my favorite as a child!) This book didn't disappoint. Transporting the reader into a different time and place with beautiful pictures, and a master of words. Both a history lesson, and a charming story. I loved seeing Thérèse as she poured her heart into her gift, and the surprise at the end! A beautiful story that is sure to please!

Rating 4 Stars!
Characters: Caring

Short Review:
I really enjoyed this sweet book. I love that it teaches both kindness and to pass it on. It's also great to see a blind character who is not only treated as a friend and equal, but who is also shown to have gifts of his own to contribute. That's something I don't see often in children's books, and I loved it!

Brilliant! This is both a love story, and a tall tale, beautifully crafted! I love the way the author chose to tell the story, the style is perfect, and truly makes the reader what to know more! I loved hearing both Uncle Arthur's story to the kids, and the memories of when he was a young boy and Lucy was just a pretty girl.

Now That You're Here

Now That You're Here - Amy K. Nichols Cover: Interesting
Rating: 3 Stars
Overall: A Fun Read
Characters: OK
Plot: When Danny wakes up in an alternate reality, to find his crush is the only person he knows, is it better to stay or go?
Page Turner: Yeah
Series Cont.? Maybe?
Recommend: Maybe
Source: Library

Short Review:
This one was a random choice for me. It was recommended on my library account, and I thought I would give it a try. I loved the end, and thought the characters were alright, I'm just not big on this type of book, sci-fi isn't really my thing, and although this one did hold my attention long enough to finish, it wasn't my favorite. If you are into teen romance, sci-fi parallel worlds type books check this one out, but neither of those are really my thing. It was a fun change thought, and I would consider reading more by the author.

Fated Memories

Fated Memories - Joan Carney **I received a free ecopy in exchange for an honest review from the author**

Rating: 3 Stars
Overall: An enjoyable, quick read
Characters: Dear Friends
Plot: What happens when three friends are thrown 150 years in the past?
Page Turner: Yes
Series Cont.? N/A
Recommend: Yes

Short Review:
This was a quick read, and I enjoyed traveling back, and seeing the Civil War through a new pair of eyes. I also enjoyed the characters, and felt they had chemistry, even if rushed. I do feel the overall the story was slightly hurried, and therefore didn't give as much detail and perspective as I would prefer, but I did enjoy reading this, and thank the author for the chance to read!

Short Review:
Wow, this one caught me off guard! A little slow to start, but then it's a rush to the end, and what an end! I knew it was coming, and I still didn't expect it! This is one of my new top read series that I will be following. I'm honestly mixed, it was so well written, that I'm frightened for the characters, yet I have to know what happens next! It's rare that a book leaves me so stunned at the end, and it's honestly a pleasant and refreshing experience in this case!

Cover: Enchanting
Rating: 4 stars
Overall: Uniquely Entertaining
Characters: Well Written
Plot: Strange yet Magical!
Page Turner: Yes
Series Cont.? N/A?
Recommend: Yes

Short Review:
I have mixed feelings about some things in this book, but over all I loved reading it, and can truly say it's unique! I love how it's written, and the wording/tone really drew me in. The prologue is somewhat confusing, and it took me a chapter or so to really understand what was happening, but it was a quick read, and easy to follow after that. I also enjoyed the illustrations, an added bonus in any story!

Hidden Motive (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #95) (originally The Crystal Cavern)

Hidden Motive (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #95) (originally The Crystal Cavern) - Hannah Alexander Cover: Eerie
Rating: 5 sparkling stars
Overall: Thrilling!
Characters: Mysterious
Plot: The suspense built right up until the end!
Page Turner: Yes!
Series Cont.? N/A
Recommend: Yes!
Source: Library

Short Review:
This is one of the best LIS books I have read lately, and even over all one of my favorites! The mystery was enough to keep me wondering until the end. Exciting, yet swoon worthy at times, a perfect combination! My little sister (age 8) started reading it over my shoulder at about half way through, and I finally had to let her finish, so I could enjoy it at my own pace! (She's a speed reader!) Sadly she spoiled it, but I still enjoyed the surprise of how they were about to get out of some tight spots at the end!

Mistaken For The Mob

Mistaken For The Mob - Ginny Aiken Cover: Weird? I really didn't care for this cover :P
Rating: 3 stars
Overall: Meh.
Characters: Stubborn!
Plot: Although for the most part I liked Maryanne and J. Z. but they were too stubborn to see the truth...
Page Turner: Eh
Series Cont.? Finished!
Recommend: Maybe? (The other two are much better! but it helps to read them in order)
Source: Library

Short Review:
Not my favorite, but I didn't hate it. The story was good, but some character choices tend to to make it predictable, and stilted in parts. Overall I enjoyed it, and loved how Maryanne treats J.Z. as she desired to get used to having him follow her! (The part with the bags it the best! XD) I read these completely out of order O.O (it's a trilogy) and although they are stand-alones, they do share characters, and some plot points are spoiled if you don't read them in order, the individual stories won't be.

Even Mummy Cries

Even Mummy Cries - Naomi Hunter **I received a ecopy in exchange for my honest review from the publisher**

Cover: Fitting
Rating: 4 stars
Overall: When a parent cries, it's often not the child's fault.
Characters: good
Plot: To help children when their mother is going through a dark time
Recommend: Yes
Source: Empowering Resources publisher

Short review:
I had mixed feeling on this one too. I agree with the message, when mothers cry, and more so when they are depressed, it's not the child's fault. I also feel though that it should encourage those suffering with depression to seek help. My mother suffers from depression, and I am bipolar, and I know what it's like to have your mother in that dark place. I feel it glosses over everything and acts like it just goes away. Sometimes though I think the children need to be told that it's not their fault, but that their mothers are sick, and I feel mental illness is hidden, or ignored too often. I think children have the right to know as much as anyone else. I enjoyed this book, but like many other things, they glossed over the mother's depression as if it isn't important, and I feel it's a missed opportunity to introduce children to depression, not in depth, but even to mention that it is common, and isn't something to be ashamed of.

You're Different Jemima

You're Different Jemima - Jedidah Morley Cover: A great read
Rating: 5 Stars
Overall: Made me smile
Characters: Educational
Plot: It's okay to be different
Recommend: Yes

Short Review:
Overall I loved this book. It's important to reach out, and teach children at a young age that it's okay to be different, and that it's important to be yourself. Too often today we hear things, and see things that tell us other wise. That tell us that we have to look this way, and act that way. In truth being yourself is the best gift you can give the world, because different is beautiful!

A Secret Safe to Tell

A Secret Safe to Tell - Naomi Hunter **I received a ecopy in exchange for my honest review from the publisher**

Cover: It works
Rating: 4 stars
Overall: I enjoyed it, but wish it had ended slightly different
Characters: OK
Plot: To help children in sexual abuse situations
Recommend: Yes
Source: Empowering Resources publisher

Short review:
Although I love what this book sets out to do, and do recommend it, I felt the end was unrealistic. I'm blessed that I didn't experience this as a child, but have people in my family who have, and I know that this, and other abuse situations, just talking isn't the end. I wish the story talked about steps to not only talk about the situation, but also what happens next. I also wish she had talked to a relative, professional (Dr. or teacher perhaps?) or even a parent or friend's parent who can be trusted, and not a stranger who can be both dangerous and unhelpful at times.

You're Different Jemima

You're Different Jemima - Jedidah Morley **I received a ecopy in exchange for my honest review from the publisher**

Cover: Whimsical!
Rating: 5 Unique stars
Overall: I could easily relate to Jemima, and loved that she found someone who enjoyed her uniqueness!
Characters: Sadly realistic
Plot: To help children who are different
Recommend: Yes
Source: Empowering Resources publisher

Short review:
In third grade, I was Jemima, and because I couldn't read, I was called stupid and lazy by my teacher. My art teacher was the one who taught me to be creative and different. The next year, with a more encouraging teacher, I took off reading without a problem! Encouragement is a powerful thing, and more kids need to hear this message. Being yourself, and doing your own thing doesn't have to be bad, and is often a good thing! If life was all black and white, if rainbows only had one color, who would enjoy them? We need to teach this more, and to encourage children from a young age that it's OK to be different, and this book does a great job at showing what a difference a few kind words can make!
